Association for the Promotion of the Zug Cherry
We are committed to promoting a vibrant cherry culture in Zug!
Blossoming cherry trees, juicy cherries, aromatic cherry brandy and the famous cherry cake are Zug’s true landmarks. The ‘Chriesi’, as it is known in the local dialect, is the only natural product that has been so closely associated with the name Zug for 600 years. This tradition has given rise to specialised cherry cultivation, culinary delights and unique folk customs.
IG ZUGER CHRIESI, founded in 2008, planted 1,000 standard cherry trees in the region around the town of Zug within 10 years, revived the centuries-old traditions of the ‘Chriesigloggä’ and the ‘Chriesisturm’, bolstered the traditional ‘Chriesimärt’ and restored the cherry to its status as the emblem of an entire region. Today, the Zug cherry activists can count on strong backing and widespread support.
Would you like to join in mid- to late June at the start of the season for the Chriesisturm, the ladder and hut race through Zug’s old town? Or visit the traditional Chriesimärt? Find out more at www.zugerchriesi.ch.
