About the Association

The Ski Club Oberwil-Zug (SCO) was founded in 1931 and is a long-established regional club with 381 members (as at 30 April 2026), including 56 children and young people aged 15 and under. The SCO promotes skiing and camaraderie. The focus is on alpine skiing and cross-country skiing.

Alpine skiing
The SCO’s Junior Section (JO) offers children and young people aged 7 to 15 a varied winter programme. Around 30 children from Oberwil, Zug and the surrounding area train in the snow from December to March on around 12 days, as well as on one or two weekends. The emphasis is on enjoying skiing and developing technique in a playful way. Training takes place primarily in the ski resorts of the Swiss Knife Valley region. The children gain racing experience at the club race and the four races of the SnowZug Ski Cup – two of which are organised by the SCO. Ambitious young people can train additionally in the racing group and take part in regional JO races. For adults, there are three indoor training sessions before the season, as well as the club race and a ski day to mark the end of the season.

Cross-country skiing
The SCO organises cross-country skiing training sessions on Wednesdays in the region, for example on the Zugerberg, for young people and adults. Members are also involved in the Loipe Zugerberg club. A cross-country skiing weekend takes place in early December; from January to March, there are three to four cross-country skiing days on the programme, for example in the Langis-Glaubenberg area.

Other activities and clubhouse
The SCO supports Jazz Night Zug by selling tickets in Zug’s old town. At the Oberwil fair, it organises the ‘Skichilbi’ and runs a food stall. The Chalet Schild ski lodge on Rigi First has belonged to the club since 1968/69. It has been leased by Helen and Roman Kennel since 2023 and offers around 25 beds for stays and holidays spent skiing and hiking.
