Since 1984, the unique Zug Märlisunntig has been held on the second Sunday of Advent.
Since 1984, the Zuger Märlisunntig Association has been organising the traditional Zuger Märlisunntig, which takes place every year on the second Sunday of Advent in Zug’s old town. This children’s event, which is unique in Switzerland, offers children and families a varied programme centred on fairy tales and Advent.
The event was originally launched by the IG Altstadt and the Pro Zug association. In 2000, the Zuger Märlisunntig Association was founded as an independent, charitable and non-profit organisation. Since then, it has been committed to preserving and developing this traditional event.
The association’s aim is to provide children from Zug and the surrounding region with an atmospheric and carefree afternoon every year. The focus is on shared experiences, cultural activities and social interaction. The Märlisunntig is deliberately kept free of any commercial element. Sales activities are therefore specifically limited.
The programme includes, amongst other things, storytelling rooms with tales and performances, music, fairy-tale characters, carousels and horse-drawn carriage rides. The various activities are spread throughout Zug’s old town, transforming it into a special venue for families during the event.
The event is made possible largely through the commitment of volunteers. Around 250 helpers support the organisation and running of the event each year. The association is also supported by partners, sponsors, donors, patrons and friends.
Through its commitment, the Zuger Märlisunntig Association combines living tradition, culture and voluntary work. It helps to preserve an event that has been popular in Zug for decades and to pass it on to future generations.
By becoming a member, you support the association both in spirit and financially, thereby helping to preserve this Zug tradition.
