MidnightSports – Exercise and socialising for young people
During the winter months, IdéeSport opens sports halls on Saturday evenings, creating a free, accessible space for secondary school pupils. Without needing to register, they can get active, play sport, meet friends and spend time together – free from the pressure to perform.
The events are organised by young people for young people. Around 2,500 young coaches are guided and supported by young adults – the project leaders. The young people can actively help shape the programme and contribute their ideas. Local involvement is ensured through collaboration with key figures from the community and regional experts.
MidnightSports promotes physical activity, social interaction and the development of social and personal skills. At the same time, the programme strengthens young people’s sense of participation, increases equality of opportunity and helps to reduce inequalities. Across Switzerland, there are around 100 MidnightSports venues, hosting over 2,200 events annually and attracting more than 90,000 visits from young people.
